VACANCY

The Best Dressed Chicken division of Jamaica Broilers Group Limited is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Utility Technician to join the maintenance team at our Feed Mill in Free Town, St. Catherine. This critical role ensures the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of the essential utility systems that govern our production process. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously monitor control boards and computerised systems, ensuring all utility parameters (temperature, pressure, flow) remain strictly within specification.
  • Perform routine inspections, lubrication, and planned maintenance (PMs) to prevent system breakdowns.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and control issues on all utility equipment (pumps, valves, compressors, chillers, etc.).
  • Perform hands-on operation, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of utility equipment and systems, including Boiler & Steam, HVAC & Refrigeration, and Water Management.
  • Maintaining detailed records and logs within a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure full compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with the installation and modification of new utility equipment as well as supporting other members of the maintenance team as needed.

 

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:

  • A minimum of a Level 2 Technical/Vocational Certificate in Industrial Maintenance Technology, HVAC/Refrigeration, Electrical Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • At least two (2) years' practical experience in industrial maintenance or operating large-scale utility systems within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong expertise across mechanical and electrical systems, including industrial controls, motors, and piping.
  • Deep knowledge of industrial safety protocols, particularly Lockout/Tagout and Confined Space Entry.
  • Highly developed skills in diagnosing and resolving equipment failures using schematics, blueprints, and diagnostic tools.
  • Specific knowledge of common industrial utility equipment, such as chillers, air handlers, filtration units, and industrial water testing.
  • Proficiency in utilising a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for all record-keeping.

 

Other Important Requirements

  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required by the operational demands of the facility.
  • Willingness to work on a contractual basis, with renewal dependent upon demonstrated performance and success in the role.
