VACANCY

The Best Dressed Chicken Division of Jamaica Broilers Group Limited is seeking motivated and meticulous Junior Instrumentation Engineers to join the Maintenance and Engineering Team at its Processing Plant located in Spring Village, St. Catherine. The successful candidates will support the installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems. The primary objective of this role is to safeguard the reliability, accuracy, and efficiency of plant equipment while contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, testing, calibration, and maintenance of industrial instrumentation and control systems.
  • Support troubleshooting activities related to sensors, transmitters, control valves, PLC-connected devices, and process instrumentation.
  • Monitor and maintain instrumentation performance to ensure accurate process measurements and operational reliability.
  • Assist in preventive and corrective maintenance activities for instrumentation systems.
  • Work closely with Automation Engineers, Maintenance and Production teams, and external contractors to resolve complex electrical and automation challenges.
  • Assist in commissioning and start-up activities for new systems, and interface with contractors to execute control and automation projects.
  • Assist in the ongoing development of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and SCADA systems.
  • Support inventory management for instrumentation spare parts and consumables.
  • Create and maintain accurate technical drawings for all existing control systems.

 

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate must possess a blend of technical expertise and a proactive mindset, specifically meeting the following criteria:

  • Extensive knowledge of PLC systems, mechanical linkages, and movement.
  • Familiarity with industrial sensors, process transmitters, and pneumatic/hydraulic controls.
  • A solid understanding of servo controls and the ability to repair small motors and gearboxes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with robust analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • The ability to contribute to automation design while providing prompt resolutions to technical issues to ensure optimal uptime.
  • A willingness to work alongside senior engineers to define system architectures, select hardware/software components, and develop control strategies.
  • An enthusiastic approach to learning and remaining abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends.

 

Qualifications and Work Conditions

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work on a rotating shift pattern, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Proficiency in working both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team within a demanding industrial setting (characterised by noise, heat, and proximity to heavy machinery).
  • These positions are offered on a contractual basis, with renewals contingent upon individual performance and operational requirements.
